Equipment Needed: Empty Garbage Can, Open Wall/Field Space or Outdoor/Indoor Lacrosse Box, Sticks, Lacrosse Balls, Nets, Helmets & Gloves, Pinnies, Pylons

 

Optional Ball Progressions (For First-Timers): do drills using dodgeballs, volleyballs, or basketballs, whiffle balls (using bare hand or top-hand only), high density foam balls (using bare hand or top hand only), SWAX balls (using bare hand or top-hand only), real balls (using bare hand or top hand only - incorporate bounce passes)

 

Time Line:  60-80 min

 

Meeting (20 min - Optional):

 

  • - Stick Stringing - How To Create And Maintain A Usable Stick – 20 Minutes Prior To Practice

 

Huddle (2-3 min):

 

    • - Lacrosse:  Hard Work
    • - Re-Hash:  Skills Learned In Previous Week
    • - Come up with an appropriate word, as a team, for a team cheer

 

Warm-Up (15 min):

 

      • - Warm-Up Drill #1 - Running Around The Outside (Variation #1B) – With Balls (No Passing)
          • - Defense Drill #1 - Athletic Position (Variation #3B) – Follow The Stick (With Ball)
          • - Demo:  Attacking A Loose Ball
        • - *Loose Ball Drill #2 - Attacking A Ball With A Partner (Variation #1 & #2) – Rolling Loose Ball (10m apart) + Cradle Around Partner
        • - Stickwork Drill #2 - Partner Passing (Variation #2) - "Long Pass" - 10-20m Away (Move Progressively Farther)
        • - *Stickwork Drill #2 - Partner Passing (Variation #3A to #3C) – "Dynamic Pass" - Short Run (Just Passer/Just Receiver/Both)
        • - Stickwork Drill #2 - Partner Passing (Variation #4) – "Face Away" (Stationary)
        • - Water Break:  2 min

  • - Demo:  Set Shooting (Time & Space, Crow Hop)
  • - Stickwork Drill #1 - Wall Ball (Variation #4) - "Set Shot" (15m Away)
  • - Demo:  Prime Scoring Area, Proper Floor Sides, Wrong Floor Side
  • - *Warm-Up Drill #5 - Semi Circle Shooting (Variation #1C) – All Players Shoot At Once (Game) - "Hit The Net"  
  • - Warm-Up Drill #5 - Semi Circle Shooting (Variation #4) - Shot On-The-Run "Hit The Net" (Demo - 1 min)
  • - Water Break:  2 min

 

Associated Drills (15 min):

 

  • - Games Drill #4- North South Cradling Relay (Variation #1) – Weave Through Pylons (Touch Far-End Boards)
  • - Games Drill #12 - Shot-On-The-Run Relay (Variation #1B) - Balls at Centre-Floor (Lines in Both Corners) - No Rebounds
  • - Games Drill #7 - Lax Darts (Variation #3) – Garbage Can @ Centre-Floor (Free For All)

 

Activity 2 (10 min):  

 

  • - Discussion (1 min):  The Importance of Fitness/Cardio in Lacrosse
  • - Cardio Drill #1 - Rabbit Run (Variation #1B) - Single Line; With Balls (Switch Directions Halfway)

 

Cool Down (2-3 min):

 

  • - Static Stretches - Have players demonstrate ones that they know; group led discussion
