5-On-4 Box Play #4C (Skip – “Quick Sticks”) & Play #4D (Skip – “Z-Pass”)
BEGINNER POWER PLAYS
*4C. Skip Pass - "Quick Sticks"
- The point player plays quick stick with the weak-side shooter, passing back and forth twice (triggering the player), ultimately quick stick skip passing the ball to the opposite-handed crease player,.
- The crease player either takes a quick stick shot (Option #1) or if they are advanced the crease player can again quick stick a pass ball crease-to-crease for another quick stick shot (Option #2).
- This all depends on the quality of the skip passes. If the first one is a bad pass then Option #2 might be a better option. If it's a pass right in the "wheel house," Option #1 is never a bad option if you have crease specialists with good hands.
*4D. Skip Pass - "Z-Pass" (Quick Sticks)
- The point player plays quick stick with the weak-side shooter, passing back and forth, with the shooter ultimately quick stick passing the ball to the opposite-handed shooter, who then skip passes the ball to the opposite-handed crease player,.
- The crease player either takes a quick stick shot (Option #1) or if they are advanced the crease player can again quick stick a pass ball crease-to-crease for another quick stick shot (Option #2); likely an empty net goal.
- *Note: This play also works well against a Diamond Defense
