Games Drill #18B: Keep Away
ADVANCED
- Arrange players into groups of 3, with one player on defense and two players on offense (with one ball).
- Variation #1 (7 min): "2 Vs. 1." Players on offense try to complete as many passes as possible while staying in one end of the floor (or a confined area marked by pylons or landmarks), if they drop the ball the last player to touch the ball (passer or receiver) is on defense.
- Keep track of which pairing gets the most consecutive passes in a row without a drop. Players are not allowed to hold the ball for more than 5 seconds without making a pass.
- If numbers and/or space are an issue, consider having half of the group participate at a time, at 1 minute intervals.
- Variation #2A (7 min): "2 Vs. 2." Same as the above variation except arrange players into groups of 4, with two players on defense and two players on offense (rock, paper scissors for first ball).
- Variation #2B (7 min): "Do Or Die." Another option is to have the winning pairs from each group (after both pairs have a try on offense), go against each other in a "do or die" format.
- Players from the losing pairings can also compete for a consolation championship.
Variation #3 (7 min): "3 Vs. 2." Similar to the above variations except use a confined area 3-5m x 3x5m sectioned off by pylons, with offensive players having to stay outside of the square and defenders having to stay inside of it.
Variation #4 (7 min): "4 Vs. 3." Similar to the above variations except use a confined area 6m-8m by 6m-8m sectioned off by pylons, with offensive players having to stay outside of the square and defenders having to stay inside of it.
