5-On-4 Box Play #10E (“Circle Net – Dump Passes”) & Play #11A (“Walk – Player Behind”)
INTERMEDIATE POWER PLAYS
10E. Circle The Net – Multiple Dump Passes"
- The point player passes to the opposite-handed shooter then runs through the middle eventually circling the net.
- While this happens, the strong-side shooter cycles up to the point position (receiving a pass from the opposite-handed shooter) and the same-side crease player cycles up to the soft spot.
- The player who filled at the point then dump passes to the player at the soft spot. This player can either shoot if it’s open (Option #2) or make another quick dump pass to the player coming out from behind the net, if the crease defender vacates the crease (Option #1). The last option on this play is a pass to the off-ball crease player, who comes up to the soft spot as this is all happening (Option #3).
11A. Walk The Middle - "Player Behind"
- After passing back and forth once each with the point player, both shooters seal the defenders at the top of the box (inside out).
- As this is happening, the opposite-handed crease player sneaks behind the net and the point player (or either shooter) fakes a shot and passes behind the net.
- As the defense turns, the point player runs straight down the middle and receives a pass back for a quick shot from the middle (Option #1).
- Note: This play also works well against a Diamond defense.
