3-2 Transition System
INTERMEDIATE TRANSITION SYSTEM
- This is a transition system used by teams that have a number of players with good “Two-Way” (offense + defense) playing ability, among Minor teams that must abide by the "No Offense/Defense" League rule, or when advantageous to change the pace during a game lacking momentum (usually as an adjustment in between periods).
- The 3-2 transition system sees either 2 or 3 offenders/defenders change per shift (with all players having to play at both ends of the floor), depending on the strategy and preference of the coach (long change vs. short change etc.). To that end, coaches will have to choose to start certain combinations of either 3 players out of the offensive door and 2 players out of the defensive door or vice-versa, using their personnel in the most effective way possible.
- The first offenders coming onto the floor off of the bench should be on their proper floor-side in order to aid in any potential fast-breaks.
- All players must be aware of who they are changing for, with coaches ultimately responsible for ensuring proper floor balance.
- On any given shift, transitioning players are responsible for guarding against reverse transition, or conversely, running the ball deep.
