Warm-Up Drill #9: Half Floor “Cycling & Shooting”
INTERMEDIATE
- This drill is often performed informally as soon as players get on the floor for a "light" warm-up on game day. It is a good general warm-up to get the blood/sweat going before moving into dynamic stretches.
- Variation #1 (5 min): "North-South Cycle." Players "cycle" at a jogging pace from high to low/low to high on their proper floor sides, running continuously toward the net in the inside lane and then curling in the corner running away from the net in the "outside lane."
- Passing and communication are to be encouraged and shots may be taken by players in the inside lane, only if the goalie is looking.
- Variation #2 (10 min): "East-West Cycle." Same as the variation above except players cycle continuously high and wide, with one side moving clockwise and the other moving counter-clockwise; finishing with east-west sweep shots from the shooter position.
- Note: Players should always be facing the middle/net (which may involve running forward, side shuffling or back-pedaling).
Variation #3 (10 min): "Off-Ball." The last variation to consider is having one side with balls and the other without, the side with balls feeding passes to the side without for off-ball quick sticks, or quick release style shots.
