Warm-Up Drill #15B: 3 Player “Weave” (Variations)
ADVANCED
- Start with 3 lines at centre-floor running half-floor (see diagram), or otherwise behind the goal-line running the full-floor (not shown in diagram). The two outside lines should have players on their proper floor side, with a third line in the middle made up of both left-handed and right-handed players.
- The number of players at the practice, introducing the drill for the first time, and potential cardio implications are all determining factors as to whether to run this drill full-floor or half-floor. If running the drill full-floor the next group starts when group ahead reaches centre.
- Variation #7 (7 min): "Get It To The Middle." Facing one or both directions, the drill starts with the coach making a pass to either of the 3 lines, with players reacting to the situation accordingly.
- If the player in the outside lane on the strong-side catches the pass from the coach they should carry it to the middle and switch lanes (criss-cross) with player in the middle lane. If the player in the outside lane on the weak-side catches it, they pass it to the middle as soon as possible. Either way the player in the middle lane should take a banana curl towards the prime scoring area and pass to either outside lane for a quality scoring opportunity. Players then exit the drill by jogging along the side-boards and out of the way of the next group in the drill.
Variation #8 (7 min): "Scrambled." Same as the above variation except players must start in a different line each time through the drill, ultimately leaving an undetermined number of players on their wrong floor-side; having to identify the situation and still get off a quality shot.
Variation #9 (7 min): "No Drops/No Misses Game." For every ball that is dropped and/or misses the net during the drill players will have to sprint from one side-board (or end-board) to the other. For every goal that is scored, one sprint is removed from the total, with goalies having to run if the players keep their sprint total at or below zero.
