6-On-5 Play #3A (“Cycle – Middle/Point”) & Play #3B (“Cycle – Middle/Point Fake”)
INTERMEDIATE SET PLAYS
3A. Cycle - "Middle/Point"
- The point player passes to the opposite-handed shooter if it's a 4-2 set-up (as seen in the diagram), or same-handed shooter if it's 3-3 set-up (not seen in diagram), and then seals for the middle player.
-
- The middle player fills up into the point position and receives a pass from the opposite-handed shooter, with the same-handed shooter simultaneously sealing their defender.
- The passer then cuts the middle for a give-and-go opportunity (Option #1), otherwise the ball carrier can shoot overtop of the double-seal (Option #2), or pass to the off-ball crease player (Option #3).
3B. Cycle - "Middle/Point - Fake"
- The point player passes to the same-handed shooter if it's a 3-3 set-up (as seen in diagram), or opposite-handed shooter if it's a 4-2 set-up (not seen in the diagram), and then fakes to down-seal for the middle player; eventually re-sealing the middle defender from the side.
- As soon as the 1st seal arrives, the middle player goes and picks for the same-handed crease player who cuts over the seal and should be open in the middle (Option #1), if not the picker would likely be open rolling to the net (Option #2)
- If the high defender on the same-side sags down to try and help, the same-handed shooter should be open (Option #3). If Option #1 or Option #3 get the ball, they both have Option #4 at the off-ball crease.
