5-On-4 Box Play #8C (“Scissors – Off-Ball”) & Play #8D (“Scissors – Off-Ball Fake”)
INTERMEDIATE POWER PLAYS
8C. Scissors – "Off-Ball"
- The point player passes to the weak-side shooter which triggers the play. The point player then seals at the strong-side crease position, while the same-handed crease player sets a north-south up-pick for the shooter. The weak-side shooter passes to the weak-side crease player, having the option to seal the help defender, while the off-ball shooter cuts through the middle in between the two seals.
- If the strong-side shooter cutting through the middle is open the pass should be made (Option #1). If not, the player who set the up-pick should roll to the net as a secondary option (Option #2). Option #3 is to pass it back to the point player if the other two options aren't open; it should be an open shot in this case.
8D. Scissors – Off-Ball ("Fake")
- The point player passes to the weak-side shooter which triggers the play. The point player then seals at the strong-side crease position, while the same-handed crease player seals for the shooter, who cuts through the middle.
- If the player cutting through the middle happens to be "wide open" the pass should be made. If not, the player cutting through the middle sets a cross-pick for the far-side crease player, who comes overtop of the pick for a shot (Option #1). If this shot isn't available the ball carrier should look to the crease player rolling to the middle after they up-seal (Option #2).
