Games Drill #17: Lax Baseball
INTERMEDIATE (10-20 MIN)
- Arrange players into two teams of 8-10. One team starts as "batters" and the other team starts as defenders.
- Predetermine the number of "innings" prior to the start of the game, with each player on the batting team having an opportunity to bat each inning.
- A coach or player from the opposing team can be the "pitcher" and should throw "lob" passes or other "soft" passes from various release points.
- A coach should stand behind the "catcher" and call "balls" and "strikes," while the batter turns their stick upside down and swings at the ball with their shaft. All other rules of baseball remain the same.
- Lacrosse balls, tennis balls or high density foam balls (our recommendation) can be used, with all having different effects on the game. Tennis balls will not travel as far, so the "outfielders" can play in closer; whereas the foam balls will travel furthest and the real lacrosse balls will be most game-specific. If using real lacrosse balls, a strong shaft should be used by the batter.
