Games Drill #13: American Gladiator
INTERMEDIATE
- Take the nets from the creases and put them in the outside lane on one side of the floor, halfway between the goal-line and the restraining-line, facing the side-boards.
- Coaches may also add other miscellaneous objects along the same pathway (chairs, tables, garbage cans, etc.) as "shields" for players to hide behind when dodging balls.
- All players start in one corner, in one end of the floor, on the side of the floor that contains the "shields" for the players to hide behind. All coaches and/or volunteer players start on the opposite side of the floor, spread out and loaded with tennis balls.
Variation #1 (5 min): "Everyone at Once." On the coaches whistle all players must make it from one end of the floor to the other without getting hit by a tennis ball. If a player gets hit by a tennis ball they must then join the coaches and players in trying to hit players still remaining in the drill.
If a player catches a ball while running in the drill, they are not "out" of the drill. Continue until there is one or two players left.
Variation #2 (10 min): "One Player at a Time." Time permitting, this game may also be played sending one player at a time (on the coaches whistle).
