Games Drill #11: Catch On-The-Run Game
INTERMEDIATE
- Arrange players into two separate groups, without balls, starting with the first player in each group at the restraining line near the side-boards (all other players standing behind). Coaches (or injured players?) start in opposite corners, in opposite ends of the floor, with plenty of balls.
- On the whistle, the first player in each line runs across the restraining line from one side to the other. Each of the coaches then sends a lead pass or loose ball to the player running across the floor, who is required to catch the ball in order to stay in the game.
- Coaches can throw trickier passes/bounces depending on the skill level of the players involved in the game (mix lob, bounce & "on a rope"). If the coach deems their pass uncatchable, the player can start over at the coaches discretion. (Draw Diagram)
Variation #1 (10 min): "Do or Die." Each player in line takes a turn in a "do or die," sudden death format.
Variation #2 (10 min): "Teams." Same as the above variation but if one team's player drops the ball and the opposing team catches it, the opposing team is scored with a point. Both teams send a new player each round, and games can be played up to 7 drops.
Variation #3 (10 min): "Pass To Far Line." Same the above variations except the coach throws the ball to the line furthest from them, instead of the line closest to them.
