INTERMEDIATE POWER PLAYS

1A. Point - "Drag"  

• The point player drags toward the strong-side shooter and utilizes a seal from this player, who seals the defender on the side of the diamond.

• The point player can then either shoot (Option #1), pass to the far-side crease player (Option #2), or pass to the weak-side shooter who fills toward the point position as the point player arrives at the strong-side shooter position (Option #3). 

• Note:  This play also works well against a Rotating Diamond defense. 

1B. Point - "Drag + Back-Door"  

• The point player drags towards a seal from the strong-side (same-side) shooter, passes to the opposite-handed shooter, then runs down towards the off-ball crease. 

• As the point player turns the corner, the shooter with the ball passes down to the crease player, while the off-ball crease player up-picks.

• These picks create a 2-on-1 at the crease; the crease player with the ball either shoots (Option #2) or passes from crease-to-crease for a "back-door" quick stick (Option #1).  The strong-side shooter can also roll to the net off of their seal a second after the point player runs past them (Option #3)

• Variation

  • Variation:  The point player can also drag underneath the first seal with the ball and then run underneath the second seal (i.e. the play is on-ball as opposed to off-ball); shooting (Option #1), passing to the far-side crease player (Option #2), or passing the strong-side shooter who rolls to the net after they seal (Option #3).
