6-On-5 Play #4A (“Circle The Net – Soft Spots”) & Play #4B (“Circle The Net – Scissors”)
INTERMEDIATE SET PLAYS
4A. Circle The Net - "Soft Spots"
- The point player passes to the weak-side shooter and cuts the middle off of an up-pick from the player in the middle; the weak-side shooter looks for a give-and-go opportunity (Option #1).
- If the pass isn't there, the point player circles the net, with the weak-side shooter passing back and forth with the same-side crease player to allow time for them to run around the net.
- The weak-side shooter acts like a threat when they receive the pass back and then tries to time a pass to the point player when they get to GLE (Option #2).
- The off-ball crease player runs up to the mid-board soft spot (Option #3) depending on how the far-side low defender reacts; the strong-side shooter also fills up toward the point position at this time (Option #4).
4B. Circle The Net - "Scissors"
- The point player passes to the weak-side shooter, cuts the middle and circles the net. The weak-side shooter, acts like a threat and then passes to the same-side crease player, which allows for the point players to run around the net.
- The crease player also acts like a threat and carries the ball up to the mid-boards soft spot, triggering the strong-side shooter to seal the high defender and the middle player to down-pick at the off-ball crease.
