5-On-4 Diamond Play #4A (“Pick The Point”) & Play #4B (“Seal The Point”)
INTERMEDIATE POWER PLAYS
4A. Point - "Pick"
- The point player passes to the weak-side shooter, which triggers an up-pick from the strong-side crease player.
- The ball is then passed to the weak-side crease player and right before the pick arrives, the strong-side shooter does a back-door cut to the crease (Option #1).
- The picker should roll to the middle (Option #2) and the point player should fill into the strong-side shooter position (Option #3).
4B. Point - "Seal"
- When the ball arrives at the weak-side crease position, this player should pass to the opposite-side crease (crease-to-crease), which signals the start of the play.
- The crease player quickly passes the ball up to the same-side shooter, who passes across to the opposite-side shooter and immediately cuts the middle (stopping and sealing up toward the point player).
- As this is happening, the opposite-side shooter passes the ball up to the point player, who then carries the ball around the seal (proper floor-side) straight down the middle and shoots (Option #1), or passes to the far-side crease player (Option #2), ideally for a quick stick. If this pass does get made, a crease-to-crease pass becomes another option (Option #3), ideally for a quick stick.
Note: This play works great for breaking down the Rotating Diamond
