Stickwork Drill #11B: Callum’s Offensive Stickwork/Footwork Patterns
ADVANCED
- Set up the pylons as shown in the diagram. (Draw Diagram)
- Have players lined up in one or both ends of the floor, on their proper floor sides, with one player starting beside any of the 3 pylons (L-shape - 3 metres apart) near the shooter position, and the rest of the players standing near the restraining-line out of the drill.
- Variation #1 (7 min): "Curl & Skip Pass." The player in the drill starts with a ball and is required to perform a relevant mixture of forward, backward or side-shuffling, footwork patterns between the 3 high pylons (no more than 5 seconds), before taking it underneath to the net and then curling out toward the mid-board instead of the crease position. The player on the opposite-side is set to go and times receiving the skip pass and performs the same pattern on the opposite side of the floor. This drill operates continuously back and forth from one side to the other, with a new player jumping in the drill after the player in front of them makes their pass.
- Variation #2 (10 min): "Skip Pass, Shot & Attack The Rebound." Same footwork as the above variation except one side goes at a time, with the player on the opposite-side set to go, eventually receiving a skip pass and taking a set-shot from the outside. After taking the shot, they "attack the rebound" and scoop a loose ball in the corner (rolled in by the coach), running up to the mid-boards and sending a skip pass to the next player set to go in the drill.
Variation #3 (10 min): "Game To 7." To add competition, play a game of lefty’s versus righty’s up to 7 goals, with the losing team doing push-ups, sit-ups, planks, body weight squats, sprints, etc. Furthermore, coaches can make it so 2 goals can be tallied on "bounce shots" if they feel like that particular skill is worthy of emphasis.
Variation #4 (10 min): "No Drops/No Misses Game." For every ball that is dropped and/or misses the net during the drill players will have to sprint from one side-board (or end-board) to the other. For every goal that is scored, one sprint is removed from the total, with goalies having to run if the players keep their sprint total at or below zero.
