5-On-4 Box Play #3A (Double Seal Shooter) & Play #3B (Drag & Cross-Pick) Left
BEGINNER POWER PLAYS
3A. Shooter - Double Seal ("Crease Shot")
- The ball is passed to the strong-side crease player and the same-handed point player and shooter both seal at the shooter position.
- The same-side crease player carries the ball up to the shooter position for a shot (Option #1); passes to the weak-side shooter if help comes (Option #2), or sends a skip pass to the far-side crease player for quick stick shot (Option #3).
- Variation: The weak-side shooter (Option #2) can also cut instead of taking an outside shot; or they can seal for the weak-side crease player to help open up the passing lane for Option #3.
3B. Shooter - Double Cross-Pick ("Point Drag")
- The point player passes back and forth with the weak-side shooter and after the pass back to the point the weak-side shooter pretends to cut the middle, triggering the play, but instead sets a "cross-pick" at the opposite-handed shooter position.
- While this is happening, the point player begins to drag toward the strong-side shooter, who fakes to seal the same-side shooter but instead sets a cross-pick for the opposite-handed shooter.
- The cross-picks should arrive simultaneously and the ball carrier now steps back overtop of the pick for a shot (Option #1); otherwise a skip pass to the far-side crease player for a quick stick (Option #2).
