Warm-Up Drill #12: “Seal The Shooter” Warm-Up
INTERMEDIATE
- Arrange players in one or both ends of the floor depending on numbers. Have them lined up on their proper floor sides, at the crease and shooter position on both sides of the floor, switching lines each time through the drill.
- Variation #1 (7 min): "On-Ball Screen & Roll." Both shooter and crease lines start with balls, with the crease player on one side starting the drill having no ball. The shooter passes down to the crease player to begin. After receiving the pass, the crease player runs up to the shooter position while the shooter screens/seals an imaginary defender. The crease player then takes an (outside shot) around or over top of the screen being established by their teammate.
- The shooter who set the seal then rolls to the net and receives a pass from the crease player on the opposite side; this crease player is now left with no ball and ready to receive the pass and starts the drill on the opposite side the next time through. (Draw Diagram)
Variation #2 (7 min): "Off-Ball Screen & Roll." Same as the variation above except both the shooter and crease player on one side start without a ball, and the seal gets set off-ball.
The opposite-side crease player sends a lead pass to the crease player as they are arriving at the shooter position (1st Pass) and the shooter who set the screen then rolls to the net and receives a pass from the far-side shooter (2nd Pass), for a shot (Variation #2A). A more remedial pass sequence (vice-versa) would be for the far-side shooter to send a lead pass to the crease player as they are arriving at the shooter position (1st Pass) and the opposite-side crease player to pass to the "roller" (2nd Pass), for a shot (Variation #2B).
The previous passers are now left with no balls and subsequently take their turn in the drill. (Draw Diagram)
Variation #3 (7 min): "React To The Rebound." Same as the variations above except after players take their shot they are required to "react to the rebound." If the rebound goes to the far-side or the goalie corrals it, the on-ball shooter "reacts back." If the rebound goes to the on-ball side, that shooter attacks the rebound and finishes the play.
Variation #4 (7 min): "Game To 7." To add competition, play a game of lefty’s versus righty’s up to 7 goals, losing team does push-ups, sit-ups, body weight squats, sprints, etc.
Variation #5 (7 min): "No Drops/No Misses Game." For every ball that is dropped and/or misses the net during the drill players will have to sprint from one side-board (or end-board) to the other. For every goal that is scored, one sprint is removed from the total, with goalies having to run if the players keep their sprint total at or below zero.
