4 Strong Offensive System (“Repetitive Strong-Side Pick & Roll”)
INTERMEDIATE OFFENSIVE SYSTEM
- This 4-player strong-side system is generally for when players are stuck on offense with 4-same-handed players and 1 opposite-handed (ideally with good feeding and/or one-on-one skills).
- In this situation, start one of the 4 players at their wrong-side crease position, with the single player (at the weak-side shooter position) receiving a pass from the point player to trigger the system.
- The point player cuts through the middle and is unlikely to be open for give-and-go (Option #1), delaying for 1 second in the middle (decoy) and eventually filling into the crease position on their wrong-side.
- At the same time the weak-side shooter acts like a threat (Option #4) and eventually passes to the weak-side crease player, while the strong-side shooter fills into the point position then v-cuts into the middle and picks at the strong-side shooter position for the strong-side crease player who comes up and over the pick (Option #2); with the picker rolling (Option #3).
- The ball carrier can pass to any of the available options while drifting behind the net with the ball and if none of the options are open, they can carry or pass the ball to their proper floor-side crease position (Option #5).
- At the same time, all players should be filling to the shooter and point positions, cutting the middle and picking/rolling (east-west), or directly running ("cycling") to their wrong-side crease position and eventually behind the net (with or without the ball).
- The player with the ball at the strong-side crease position carriers it up to the shooter position and ideally the east-west pick is arriving (timing); if not they can pass the ball to the weak-side shooter and the cycle starts again.
- When the cycle runs a second time, strong-side players need to evaluate whether it's better to pick at the shooter position or run directly to their wrong-side crease position, in order to keep the "flow" of the offense.
- Any player cycling through their wrong-side crease position should delay and make themselves available to receive a pass before cycling behind the net.
- Note: This system can also work with 5 same-handed players
