ADVANCED SET PLAYS

9A. "Double Scissors" 

• The ball starts up high with either shooter and the play is triggered when the ball carrier passes the ball to the player in line with the mid-boards (middle player) on the same-side (middle player should pop-out slightly). 

• All other offensive players need to identify this deliberate action, with the shooters picking down immediately after the pass is made and the crease players picking up as soon as the shooters cross the plane of the ball (middle player).
  

• Both middle players then run between the picks ("scissors"), with the ball carrier passing to the middle player on the opposite side (Option #1) if they are pressured by the middle defender now isolated in a 2-on-1, shoot (Option #2), or pass to the off-ball crease player who rolls off of their pick after the middle player cuts between the picks (Option #3).
  

9B. "Seal The Box"

• The ball gets passed low to the crease player and this player begins to carry the ball high, triggering the play (which calls for the crease and shooters on both sides to seal down on the players checking them).
  

• Both crease players should come up overtop of the seals at the shooter position, ideally at the same time, which leaves a 2-on-1 against the string player (middle player) on the defense.  The ball carrier either shoots (Option #1) or passes (Option #2).

  Offensive players at the shooter position ideally seal their check down and/or out in direction, towards the middle and/or side-boards.  By sealing defenders in this way the top two players will have more space to work with, with the two players coming overtop of the seals ultimately having to read the situation. 

  The off-ball crease player should also "pop" off of their seal and flash their stick at the mid-board soft spot as another option for the ball carrier as they come overtop of the high seal (Option #3).
