6-On-5 Play #8D (“Behind Net – Scissors”) & Play #8E (“Behind Net – Decoy Scissors”)
ADVANCED SET PLAYS
8D. Behind The Net - "Off-Ball Scissors"
- The point player passes to the opposite-handed shooter to trigger the play, at which point the player circles out from behind on their proper floor side (toward the mid-board soft spot).
- The off-ball crease player then sets an up-pick on the high defender and the off-ball shooter down-picks the low defender.
- While this is happening, the player from behind the net cuts between the picks ("scissors") on their proper floor side and receives a pass in the middle from the opposite-side crease player (Option #1).
8E. Behind The Net - "Off-Ball Scissors - Decoy"
- The point player passes back and forth with the strong-side shooter and once the shooter passes back to the point, they seal the high defender on their side.
- The play is quickly triggered when the weak-side shooter receives a pass from the point player, at which point the player circles out from behind the net on their proper floor side (toward the mid-board soft spot), while the player in the middle sets an off-ball down-pick and the strong-side crease player sets an off-ball up-pick on the middle defender.
- The strong-side shooter subsequently releases the defender they are sealing ("fake seal") and runs between the two picks ("scissors"), receiving a pass in the middle from the weak side ball carrier (Option #1) who has subsequently backpedaled from the soft spot to the crease position.
