6-On-5 Play #8B (“Behind Net – Double Down”) & Play #8C (“Behind Net – Double Up”)
ADVANCED SET PLAYS
8B. Behind The Net - "Double Down Seal"
- The ball starts at the weak-side shooter and gets passed down to the same-side crease player, who passes to the opposite-handed player behind the net.
- The player behind the net carries the ball toward their proper-side crease position, with the player standing there moving up to the mid-boards soft spot, receiving a pass.
- At this point the two players at the same-side shooter position double-seal and the ball carrier can either shoot (Option #1), pass back to the player at the same-side crease player (Option #2), or pass to the off-ball shooter who cuts through the middle as the ball carrier gets overtop of the double-seal (Option #3).
8C. Behind The Net - "Double Up-Pick" ("Scissors")
- The point player passes to the opposite-handed shooter, who passes to the player at the mid-board soft spot (same-side), who passes it to the same-side crease player.
- The crease player carries the ball behind the net, which triggers the middle player to up-seal the middle defender and the player at the off-ball soft-spot to up-pick the high defender.
- At the same time the point player cuts between the seal and pick (generally as a decoy), picking the low defender on the same-side, with the player who up-picked the shooter rolling to the net between the seal/pick (Option #1).
