5-On-4 Box Play #12C (Behind Net – Up Pick) & Play #12D (Behind Net – Crease Overload)
INTERMEDIATE POWER PLAYS
12C. Behind The Net - "Crease Up-Pick"
- A pass from shooter-to-shooter (strong-side to weak-side) triggers the play.
- The crease player on the strong-side sets an up-pick, while the shooter who made the pass sets a cross pick where they passed to (opposite-side shooter).
- The opposite-side shooter receives the pass, steps overtop of the pick and shoots (Option #1), passes back-door to the player who simultaneously comes out from behind the net (Option #2), or passes to the roller (Option #3).
12D. Behind The Net - "Crease Overload"
- The weak-side shooter passes down to the same-side crease (triggering the play). Both shooters then cut the middle and cross pick the opposite-side crease defenders.
- The off-ball crease player comes around the pick (Option #1), while the player behind the net simultaneously comes out from behind the net on the same-side (Option #2)
- The crease player with the ball makes a decision on which player to pass to.
