Offense Drill #4B: Seal/Overload The Crease
INTERMEDIATE
- Variation #1 (10 min): "Static Overload." Start with a pylon at each crease position, on a 45° from each goal post and 1 metre back from the actual crease (Variation #1A). A "dummy defender" can also be utilized instead of a pylon, as a further progression which helps give players more of a game-like feel (Variation #1B); eventually defending aggressively (Variation #1C).
- All players begin on their proper floor sides, with one offensive player at the mid-boards with a ball and another standing on the door-step "sealing" a real or imaginary defender. The ball carrier starts the drill by cutting underneath and then timing a "flip pass" to their teammate, who subsequently slips off of the defender receiving the pass on top of the crease. The timing of this series of actions is paramount!
- The drill alternates from side to side with the ball carrier becoming the "sealer" the second time through; and becoming the "dummy defender" the third time through where required.
- Variation #2 (15 min): "Dynamic Overload." Similar to the above variations except instead of starting at the crease, the non-ball carrier starts at the shooter position and cuts to the top of the crease as soon as the ball carrier cuts off of the mid-boards. The ball carrier then needs to time their flip pass to their teammate at full speed, while staying properly spaced and in unison.
