Place one cone in the middle of the field, and walk 10-12 yards out from the middle cone at 4 points to create a 'box and one'.
Place both an offensive player, and a defensive player at each cone, and give one offensive player a ball. The objective of the offense is to successfully make a pass to the offensive player occupying the middle cone spot. The objective of the defense is to prevent a successful pass to the middle.
Variation 1- Passing (Not shown in diagram)
Offensive players (highlighted in black) will move the ball around the outside cones. Defensive players (highlighted in red) will use their communication and footwork to achieve optimal positioning. Adjacent defenders (D2 and D4) will split their check and the ball-carrier, and communicate 'Left' or 'Right' in respect to their position relative to the ball-carrier. D3 will remain with their check. D5 will 'sluff' or 'spider in' near the middle cone, in order to show help for D2 and D4, in the event there is a slide.
Variation 2- Dodging (Shown in diagram)
Same as above, except offensive players are now permitted to dodge. In the event a dodge is successful the adjacent defender will slide (D2) in diagram. D5 will then fill for D2 as the 2nd slide, and D4 will 'sluff' or 'spider in' in order to then take the role previously held by D5.
Variation 3- Crease Competition (Similar to diagram)
Same as above, except the middle cone will be replaced by a folded crease, or a circle of cones. The objective off the offense is to drop the ball into the circle. The competetion will be scored using the same scale as the Triangle Show Drill.
